The biological, physical, and earth sciences are studied in kindergarten through fifth grade.  The opportunity to use the scientific method of questioning, experimenting, and drawing conclusions is provided throughout the grade levels.  We are fortunate at Greenbriar to have our own dedicated Science classroom, along with our Science teacher, Mr. Dan Toops.  By the end of kindergarten, we expect students to be able to do the following within each area:

Seasons

*name the four seasons

*identify characteristics of each season

Senses

*explore and identify the five senses

*associate body parts with each sense

Living/Non-Living

*explore and identify living and non-living elements

*identify elements necessary for living elements

*develop observational skills

Magnets

*identify characteristics of magnetic elements

*label magnetic poles

*demonstrate opposite attract/like repel

*explore and identify the powers of magnets

Health

*understand basic safety rules (classroom, bus, personal)

*understand the importance of hand washing

* understand the basics of good health (nutrition and exercise)
